BIOLOGIST REPORT
Black Moshannon Lake
Black Moshannon Lake is a long, shallow, 250 acre impoundment
located in Centre County approximately eight miles east of Phillipsburg.
The lake is part of the Black Moshannon State Park which provides facilities
for fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking, camping, hiking, and nature
observation. The bog-type lake is unique and has historically provided
a warmwater fishery, particularly for panfish, largemouth bass, chain pickerel,
and northern pike. In addition, the lake harbors bowfin, creek chubsuckers,
and blue spotted sunfish - species not commonly found in Northcentral Pennsylvania
lakes. Seasons, sizes, and creel limits for Commonwealth Inland Waters
are currently in effect for all species.
As part of the continuing management the fishery
at the lake, Commission biologists sampled fish March 20-22, 2000 using
trap nets and night electrofishing.

The Commission plans to sample the lake again during
June to monitor largemouth bass and panfish populations.
