| Located in Bedford County, Yellow Creek is one
of many limestone streams found in southcentral Pennsylvania. Yellow Creek flows southeast from
its headwaters in the vicinity of Woodbury to its mouth at the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River
in Hopewell. Yellow Creek provides anglers with the opportunity to fish for wild trout as well as
stocked trout. Currently, two sections of stream are stocked with adult trout and open to angling
under statewide regulations. For anglers who prefer fishing in special regulation areas, Yellow Creek
also offers a Catch and Release Fly Fishing Only area that is stocked with adult trout.
Biologists as well as technicians from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Fisheries Management Division conducted a survey of two historic sites in June at Yellow Creek. One of the sites was located in the vicinity of the Route 36 Bridge within a section of stream managed under statewide regulations. The other site was located in the vicinity of the mouth of Maple Run within the Catch and Release Fly Fishing Only area. These surveys will provide insight for future management plans for both of these sections of Yellow Creek. Wild trout make up a significant contribution of the trout populations of both the sites sampled. Yellow Creek also supports a variety of other cold, cool and warm water fish species that occurred within these sites. These other species include: white sucker, blacknose dace, longnose dace, sculpin, gizzard shad, smallmouth bass, rock bass, cutlips minnow and northern hog sucker. Summary tables depicting total trout caught in these sites are found below.
